
Kinh people (or Việt) accounts for nearly 90 per cent of Việt Nam's total population. Kinh people almost lives in Deltas or main roads in all provinces of the country. Their traditional costume was very simple and modest. Men used to wear a long gown with slits on either side and a turban. The gown and turban usually in black or brown were made of silk or cotton. Women used to have a more attractive dress. They used to wear ao tu than with four slits divided equally on its lower section and áo dài, a long dress with slits on either side. Áo tứ thân (four-panel traditional dress) has three layers with different colors. It was made of silk. Formerly, almost women used to blacken their teeth which considered more beautiful. Men's and women's garments have gradually changed along with social development. However, traditional costume for men and women restores in traditional festivals and entertainment. In recent years, the Vietnamese traditional áo dài is loved by not only Vietnamese girls and women but also foreign ladies in the world.
