Hospitality by Thái minority

The black Thái ethnic group live in Northwest of Vietnam. They have their own cultural identities and lifestyle; their hospitalities show their own feelings of the mountainous habitats.
Habitually, the Thái ethnics entertain their guests with sticky rice and the food is normally home-made: vegetables or chickens whose head and legs are carefully retained. Eggs, chicken’s eggs maybe used instead. Before the meal, guests usually say “I’m very pleased to be met in such a house with golden columns, silvery walls and copper roofs” while the host, in a very humble way responds “the house is nothing important, just have a cup of alcohol with me”, then he pours the wine into 4 cups, two for him two for the guests. He pours a little alcohol in the foot of the column behind him before he drinks, and so does the guest. In their opinion, the house is their home and a little alcohol means the harmony between the Earth and the Heaven and Man. After a round of drinks, the guest with share chicken’s legs and head with host, it’s eggs, it’s shared too.

In their habits and customs, things can only be perfect in pairs. The pair of chicken’s legs means wishes for happiness, success and prosperity for the host and the eggs means good health for the children. Food is shared means they are always together in happiness as well as in difficulties.
